2nd Grade Hatches Chicks
April 14, 2008
The 2nd graders at Tescott experienced Science coming to life. They were eagerly awaiting the day the chicks would hatch.
On Monday afternoon, one 2nd grader noticed a small hole in one of the eggs. They continued to monitor the incubator all day, but nothing more had happened by the end of the day. The next morning there were five baby chicks inside the incubator. This was the same day the chicks hatched in the story they were reading in their reading group. What a coincidence!
On Tuesday afternoon, another one hatched. It had quite an audience as it came into the world. Students from all grades stopped in to check on the progress.
Fourteen chicks hatched in all. The 2nd graders witnessed three hatching during school. It was a Science lesson they will never forget.
The chicks went home with Mrs. King on Friday. She will bring some back to school as they change and grow.
