Bennington/Tescott Students Attend TABS
“It was SHARK week on Discovery”
Students learned a “new” SHARK Dance in honor of Shark Week that can be viewed on YouTube: 2010 Kansas Youth Leadership Summit at Rock Springs…you had to be there. Those “sharks” called alcohol and drugs are swimming around everywhere…and TABS attendees now know to “beware.”
Attending the Kansas Youth Leadership Summit (or TABS) has become a tradition at Bennington and Tescott High Schools. The Summit was held at Rock Springs 4-H Camp from August 1-3, 2010. This year’s attendees numbered 18 from Bennington and 7 from Tescott. Of that number 5 were Youth Leaders. Included were 5 adults who attended as team sponsors and leaders.
The Summit is sponsored by Kansas Department of Transportation and Kansas Family Partnership who provide enough funding that the 2 ½ days of leadership training-- free to participants. Bill Cordes, nationally known presenter and leadership trainer, entertained, challenged and lead 250 teens from across Kansas in this event.
Required of teams is an Action Plan for development of prevention of underage drinking and increased use of seat belts.
Teen Leaders, accepted via application to Kansas Family Partnership, were expected to lead the camp and participants through activities and action plan building. Bennington students chosen were: Kayci Breese, Kaci Copas, Lucas Garrett, Nolan Regnier and Leah Watts. Students that attended as participants were: Lindsay Curl, Nichelle Edwards, Kaylee Long, Danielle Nay, Cameron Stanley, Jake Stewart, Jesse Weiss, Madison Wolf, Shiland Fuller, Reuben Gonzales, Steven Huerta, Jordyn Shorter, and Wyatt Stimatze, Special thanks to adults who left their homes and jobs to accept responsibility for leadership: Warren Cico, , Elizabeth Harris, Daymon Walker and Jeremiah VanDoren. Rosemary Neaderhiser also attended as sponsor and leader as well as TRUCE Sponsor.
