New Radio Public Service Announcements Available!

The Kansas State High School Activities Association and the Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, in partnership with the National Federation of High School Associations and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, have produced  four sixty-second (:60) public service radio announcements.  These PSAs are designed to help communicate to the public the role that high school activities play in providing teenagers with a complete educational experience.  Hard copy CDs of these PSAs have been mailed to all Kansas radio stations on January 19, 2012, along with a letter explaining the initiative.  Check out these links to hear the announcements:

PSA#1 Everyone Knows <http://wwwkshsaa.org/media/audio/2012PSA2wma>

PSA#2 A Role to Play <http://www.kshsaa.org/media/audio/2012PSA1.wma>

PSA#3 A Valuable Lesson <http//wwwkshsaa.org/media/audio/2012PSA3wma>

PSA#4 Best Bargain <http://www.kshsaa.org/media/audio/2012PSA4.wma>

The PSAs highlight studies showing high school students involved in athletics and other extracurricular activities typically have higher grade point averages and fewer disciplinary problems while learning life skills that typically cannot be taught in the classroom. Yet as you know, many of our after-school programs may be at risk because of budgetary issues.  Each PSA has a final tagline acknowledging the KSHSAA and the  KIAAA as partners in this important endeavor to get the word out on the importance of high school activities and what a true bargain they really are. Please forward these attached PSA spots to your broadcast journalism instructor for use in school radio productions or webcasts of your events. Please call, write or email your local radio stations and encourage them to play these messages.  These messages will help remind people in our state that high school activities teach lessons and life skills that can’t be taught in most classrooms and that activities are an essential part of a young person’s education.  Hopefully as the general public hears these messages and begins to think about them, they too will consider these programs as essential as we do. Thank you for your support and cooperation in making this new initiative successful.
