Mr. Rodine’s reading class ventured to the Linger Longer to hold class on the book Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry. Mr. Rodine stated, “I like to take the students out of the classroom whenever possible to experience learning in different environments.” The décor, and the soda fountain are about the same time period for which the book is set. The students get a chance to enjoy a soda or a shake before students do a project for the book.
Students were shown three different video clips and asked to connect them to Number the Stars and are then asked to work in small groups to present the three most important parts of the book to the class.
I’d like to thank Mrs. Wagner for opening her store early to accommodate our lesson and for making some delicious drinks for us.
