Letter From The Superintendent
During the April 18th meeting, the USD 240 Board of Education voted to transition away from using the Summit platform as a resource for math, science, social studies, and english for grades 4-12. A variety of reasons went into this decision, with the main reasons being a lack of local control regarding content in the platform and the timelines established for power focus areas and project completion.
A new learning management system (LMS) has been selected, Schoology, which allows the district the flexibility we need to deliver not only the curriculum we feel is appropriate for students of USD 240, but also create the timeline and deadlines teachers feel are appropriate at the classroom level.
The new LMS is a shell at this time, and requires teachers to set up the system to deliver resources for instructional purposes and assessments for determining proficiency.
Because of this change, the Board of Education has approved a change in the current calendar for the last day of school.
Following a vote by the USD 240 Teachers Association, our student's last day of school will be moved from May 19th to May 17th at 11:30 am. This will allow teachers 2 days at the end of the year to begin working on curriculum and resource development for the 2022-23 school year, as well as learning how to navigate the new LMS. We will continue this work with a roll-out of the new LMS sometime during the 2022-23 school year. We want to ensure our teachers have time to become comfortable with the platform and we have everything in the system for students before our actual use of the LMS begins.
Parent training will also occur when the new LMS is ready to go.
Just to repeat this piece... STUDENT'S LAST DAY OF SCHOOL WILL BE MAY 17TH at 11:30 am.
Adjustments will be made to play days and field trips to accommodate this change in schedule.
