Superintendent Pam Irwin
August 30, 2020
I am extremely honored to be serving as the Superintendent of USD 240. As a long time resident in this area, I’ve often heard of the great things happening in the Twin Valley schools in both academics and extracurricular activities, and am excited to now get to watch the magic happen in person. It is my desire to provide the leadership and the support necessary for the district to continue to move in directions that improve the learning environment for all students and allow them to reach their potential in our schools and beyond.
I started my career teaching in a small district in northwest Kansas, Herndon Public Schools. We were a small PreK-12 building and I served as the PE Teacher, Distance Learning Teacher, coach of many sports, and the Junior/Senior Class sponsor. In a small district it takes everyone pulling extra duties to get everything done, something that I’ve seen in action in both Bennington and Tescott since my arrival.
I then moved to a position at a Service Center, serving as an education consultant, before teaching in Ellis, KS for 4 years. Our family moved to Salina following that position in 2001, where I then took a position as an instructional coach in USD 305. My work as a coach was one of the most enjoyable positions as I had the best of both worlds, working with teachers and students. I served in that capacity for 7 years before moving to the district office as the Director of Staff Development and Accreditation, where I worked for 10 years. This leadership position set me on my current administrative path. I moved to Geary County schools and worked as the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for the past 3 years. Working with curriculum and instruction is my passion and I’m excited to be able to get to continue to do that work on a grander scale in all areas.
My education started when I earned my bachelors degree in 1992 from FHSU. I then moved on to a Masters in Instructional Technology and a Masters in Education Leadership, where I earned my building leadership license. My most recent degree, an Education Specialist degree, is also in Education Leadership and where I earned the district level leadership license. I am now also an Adjunct Professor for FHSU teaching in the Education Leadership department.
I have been married to my husband Darren for 31 years. We have 3 daughters, Alicia, Tia and Courtney. Alicia is married to her husband Jason and lives in Knoxville , TN where they are both Chiropractors running their own practice. Tia is married to her husband James and lives in Salina with their 3 children, Aubreena (7), Layton (22 mo), and Micah (5 mo). She is a Kindergarten teacher in Salina and her husband is the Program Director for Rocking M Radio. Courtney, our youngest daughter, lives in Knoxville, TN with her fiance’ Brandon and is a cosmetologist. They have our fourth grandchild, Cooper (20 mo), and are getting married in October. Being a grandparent is the best job I have !
We are very excited to be living in Bennington. We absolutely love the area where we live, it’s very quiet, which is a nice change from the areas we’ve previously lived.
It has been a whirlwind to say the least these past 6 weeks, but now that school has started I’m hoping to get into a bit of a rhythm. I have a great deal to learn and doing what I can to get up to speed. Getting to know everyone in the community is one of my next goals as we continue to make this our home.
I look forward to working with everyone in the district and the community!
We are off to a great year!
